SWEP AGM & AWARDS EVENING - 23rd November 2007

The AGM and Awards night was held in the Westward Inn, Lee Mill.

Maureen presented the AGM and gave the following report:

  • The 2007 outdoor show was cancelled as a result of the weather and foot and mouth which affected monies earned.

  • The indoor shows were well attended and Maureen thanked all those who made the effort to support SWEP.

  • SWEP were present at the Equine Fair, Westpoint, Exeter but results were disappointing with attendance down on previous years, which severely affected the monies made after all expenses were taken out.

  • Income for the 12 months was £39416 which was £20000 down on the previous year.SWEP Accounts are currently with Company House for auditing.

  • The following resignations were received:
    Phillippa Wadner.
    Jan Knight.
    Tina Hurford.
    Pam Appleby.

  • The following were made 'Trustees':
Vanessa Dawson (SWEP Yard Manager (Unpaid)).
    Katriona (Running SWEP Shows).

  • SWEP is currently experiencing problems with the management at Duchy College and are attempting to resolve these issues.  4 Indoor shows have been booked at the Duchy for 2008, the spring show dates are Sunday 27th January and 23rd March, there is no show in February.  Autumn / Winter dates to be promulgated later.

  • SWEP Membership prices for 2008 have been held at the 2007 rates.  Maureen asked that all gifts / membership fees are nominated as 'Gift Aid' to increase the income received.  Those who took out a membership at the last Duchy Indoor show in November are members for 2008.

  • It is hoped that a Clear Round X-Country event will be held in 2008 - further details to follow.

  • Station Stables at Lydford.  This venture was not successful for a number of reasons and a decision was made to pull out.

  • New Horse Transport regulations (maximum of 4 horses / ponies in a section in a horse lorry is causing 'policing' problems at the horse markets / auctions.  One dealer at one sale had 4 lorries full of horses so there must be a profit to be made.

  • SWEP has number of success stories this year:
    Missy.
    Mousey.
    Sooty & Milton.
    Autumn.
    Robin and Beany.
    Milo (foal).
    Maisie.
    Lexi.

  • There have been a lot of Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) this year.  A story appeared in the Plymouth Evening Herald on 12 Dec 07 about the increasing number of RTAs.  www.thisisplymouth.co.uk
