these Dartmoor Pony/Horse Societies:
Dartmoor Hill Pony Society.
Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust.
Complaints Throughout 2006 SWEP attended
numerous road traffic accidents, complaints and incidents
relating to ponies/horses in our area. The following are just a few of
their stories:
Buster (Epileptic - on the advice of a vet Buster
unfortunately, had to be put down.)
April (Distressed and found wandering in Plympton
(through gardens, on busy roads and
dangerously the main railway line.)
Jake (Rescued from market - subsequently
suffered from stress and colic.)
Milly (Rescued from market with Angel (her foal) -
Milly aborted a foetus 4 days later.)
Carn (2 year old colt - Badly treated,
frightened and destined to be put down.)
40 Shetlands (All quickly rehomed after a TV appeal.)
Bramble and Pickle
Bramble and Pickle were two Shetlands brought into SWEP Care after they and
their friends were
dumped in a Cornish field by horse dealers who had bought them at market.
Pickle was separated
from his mother at just 8 weeks old. Unfortunately, 2 of Pickles
friends died. Bramble and
Pickle were rehomed together but Pickle's poor start in life (removed from
his mother too
early) was too much for him and despite the best efforts of his adoring
loanee's and the vet
Pickle had to be put down. Bramble is fit and well and still enjoying life
with his loanee
family and numerous animal friends.
Rehoming We are looking to
rehome a number of ponies / horses. If you are interested and can
offer a
good home please contact Maureen on 01822 890668
or e-mail:
contact@swep.org.uk or
complete an online application form or
print an application form.
Prosecutions SWEP's diligence has resulted in the
police bringing prosecutions against unscrupulous horse
dealers.
Warning Maureen took the
opportunity to remind everyone that 'Strangles' is till prevalent on
Dartmoor
particularly around Tavistock.
Before the AGM closed Gill Ross (Senior Member) and Shannon Down (Junior
Member) thanked SWEP, the committee
and the gathered members for their hard work and support during 2006.
There was much excitement as Maureen started to
announce the winners of the awards for the SWEP 2006 show
season. The number of rosettes and cups to be awarded was an amazing sight.

There were lots of smiling faces as the winners were called up to collect their trophies.
The Champions had the biggest smiles.
