Merry – Newborn Dartmoor Filly Foal.

SWEP was alerted by a walker, the foal was with a herd of bullocks.  She was treating them as she would her mare, playing and trying to suckle from them.  No mare was to be found.  SWEP took her in and a vet attended.  A 3 hour feeding regime was started day and night.  Merry is doing very well even though she was dehydrated and could not suckle easily.

Par - spent the winter grazing on Dartmoor and on the local golf course; hence his name.

Golfers from the Golf Club were aware that Par needed help and many of them would feed him carrots, however, without proper nutrition his body and condition deteriorated and he became very emaciated.
SWEP was informed and took him in and wormed him, loads of worms came out.  His teeth are also in need of attention.  With a little bit of attention Par is steadily making progress.

Par appears to have been gelded and handled but was abandoned on the moor by his owner, sadly people assume that dumping a pony on the moor is acceptable and the answer to their problem; unfortunately, it is often the start of the ponies problems as Par's physical conditions indicate.

All ponies on the moor are owned by a farmer who has grazing rights and are only allowed to put a 'quoted' number of ponies out onto the moor and Par was not one of them.

Cupid and Filly Foal Phantasie.

Bodmin Moor pony.  Mare (Cupid) had difficulty foaling and when the foal (Phantasie) was born a larger mare bullied Cupid and tried to take the foal.  A nearby horse owner witnessed what was happening and put the mare and foal in her field for safety

It was evident that Cupid’s teeth and feet needed attention.  After contacting the local farmers it was established that Cupid had been abandoned on the Moor and so no owner was traceable; although it appears that someone once cared enough for Cupid to clip a 'heart' shape into her coat, as the picture shows.  SWEP was contacted to bring Cupid and her foal into our care.  They are both doing fine and a farrier and dentist has been organised for Cupid.
