A Home of Our Own Appeal

Our work with rescued ponies is funded by donations, proceeds from our shows, and other fundraising activities. This covers day to day costs such as feed, farriers and vets bills. SWEP has rehomed around over 170 animals to date.
The majority of our equines have been rescued, as wild and untamed animals from the Westcountry moors. Elderly rescued grey mareFollowing either serious illness, malnutrition or more recently, abandonment, we provide the ponies with whatever treatment they require to enable them to make a full recovery.

Daisy, pictured on the left, is one such case. An elderly mare, malnourished herself yet still feeding her colt and in foal again, she had collapsed beside the public highway too weak to stand. It took many weeks of intensive nursing care before Daisy was out of the woods. Happily, she is now able to live out her years as a 'senior citizen' in comfort and safety with her foster  family.

At present SWEP does not own its land or stabling - instead we rely on the generosity of individuals who allow us to use their land and buildings free of charge. TTiny Dartmoor Hill pony rescur in the back of a vanhis means that we are unable to help as many ponies, as quickly as we would like to. We also have a duty to do something about the causes of the problems we are dealing with. Our own facilities would enable us to give practical demonstrations on the safe handling and management of semi - feral horses and ponies, as well as providing education in equine care and welfare.
The aim of this appeal is to raise funds to purchase and develop our own facility so that we can continue our work for other ponies such as Daisy.
