Pictures are of Solomon on Bodmin Moor in 2004 and now in 2006 enjoying life at his loan home.
2004 2006
This is 'Peaches' at loan home on SWEP Loan Pony Scheme.
19th June 2006 - PICKLE'S STORY Pickle, and his friend Bramble, were rehomed together by SWEP in February of this year (2006). They went to a loving home where their every need was catered for.
.
Very quickly a strong bond between the collective family was established and happiness reigned. Then on Easter Sunday Pickle was suddenly taken very seriously ill, a vet was called immediately. Stomach problems and possible ulcers was the diagnosis. A regime of drugs and tender loving care was implemented and after a week Pickle began to get better.
After a month of improvement spirits were high and then the worst happened. Pickle was taken seriously ill again. Another visit from the vet and another course of drugs. Surprisingly, but happily Pickle was up and about the same day appearing to be none the worse for his brief relapse. After such a quick recovery everyone was optimistic that Pickle was better, unfortunately, the optimism was short lived and a few days later Pickle fell ill again.
Another visit from the vet but sadly this time the result was not to be the same. It was decided by all that it would be kinder to put Pickle down rather put him through any more pain and suffering.
All the time this was going on Pickle's friend Bramble was obviously very upset and now he is alone. The family are currently looking for a new friend for Bramble.
SWEP would like to add that the reason for Pickle's health problems are usually the result of removing ponies at too young age from their mother, a view supported by DEFRA.
SWEP would also like to add that vet's bills of over £1000 are not usual and of the 220 ponies owned by SWEP, and in our history, there have only been 2 occasions where it has been necessary to have ponies put to sleep.
Pickle's adoptive mother has written her own honest and heartfelt account of his story; and of the emotions she and her husband felt during this very sad time. By clicking on this LINK you too can read her story.
20th May 2006 - SHILOE Update
Just a quick update, with a photo to let
you know how Shiloe is doing. Today (14th May 2006) was only
his second schooling session in the field and he was very well
behaved, even when a turbo-charged rabbit shot out of the hedge and
almost into his off-fore leg. He prefers to go hacking out
with his fieldmates and nothing seems to unsettle him then, not even
road works...or herds of deer...or yappy dogs...or cyclists.
You would never believe he was only backed in January. Maybe one day
his halo will slip, but for now it is shining brightly!
Healthwise, he is a bit too tubby but we have started to work him a bit more, and with 6 horses on the fields instead of the 3 we had last year the grazing is sparser. He has been professionally fitted with a new saddle.
To sum up, he's a little angel and everyone who meets him loves him!
Thank you (SWEP) for letting us loan him.
Shiloes' family.
I have lost a very
special friend, his name was Magic. All of my girls have
ridden him and learned a lot. I got him when he was 5 months
old and lost him at a good age of 26. We had a lot
of fun at the SWEP shows and one year we won the 'Veteran'. A
friend of mine says he has gone home but he is still very much
missed. Thank You Jose. |
