Our Work Continued (Even More Stories)

Updated 30th October 2006

The foal in the photographs had travelled down to Dartmoor on 5 Oct 06 and was left in the dealers lorry overnight in a pub car park near Yelverton where the Irish dealers stayed.  (We are sure they had enough to eat and drink and some where nice to sleep; unlike the foal who was left without water, hay or feed and only filthy bedding to lie on.)  The photograph on the right was taken at 7.30 a.m. on 6 Oct 06 and shows the foal trying to lick rain water and drops through the open window.  At Tavistock market the foal was left in the lorry all day.

The foal had spent at least 24 hours in this lorry.

At 0730 SWEP alerted the police and Trading Standards Animal Welfare Officers. At Tavistock Market SWEP representatives persisted all day to try and get a response in favour of this foal but to no avail.  At approximately 4 p.m Trading Standards approached the dealers and listened to their lame excuses but took no action.  However, within minutes the foal was loaded onto another dealers lorry and was whisked away - to WHERE?

The photographs below show Merrivale Pony Drift, Dartmoor on 2nd October.

The photographs below a show piebald mare and colt foal at Tavistock Sales on 6 Oct 06.  They were part of the Merrivale Pony Drift on the 2 Oct 06 when the foal was only a few days old.

SWEP purchased this mare and foal to stop an Irish Dealer Buying them and transporting them with lots of other mares / foals / stallions to Ireland and then to goodness knows where and for what?

Photograph shows a mare with a yellow 'Cattle Tag' inserted into the ear for identification purposes.
