Our Work Continued (Even More Stories)

Updated 29th June 2007

SWEP has been busy in June (2007); we have a number of stories for you.

STORY 1

Angel, a filly yearling cam into our care in 2006 from Hallworthy Market with her dam Misty.  They were both off Bodmin Moor and were thin and emaciated.

Angel has been rehomed on our 'Loan Scheme'.  She joins 'Arron' another SWEP Pony on loan already at this loan home.

STORY 2

Dartmoor Mare with foal at foot.  Mare is suffering from severe colic after being fed mowed grass.  Lucky for this mare SWEP, with the farmers permission,  called a Vet who gave the mare 2 injections to ease the pain.  It was 50 / 50 whether the mare would survive but about an hour later the mare was on her feet and the foal was suckling.

STORY 3

2 colt foals on Dartmoor (Robin and Beanie).

Robin came in 1st, abandoned by his dam, farmer brought him into our yard.  Robin was weak and dehydrated; a vet was called who stomach tubed colostrum into his tummy.  Then 24 hour feeding by SWEP volunteers.

ROBIN

One week later walkers notified SWEP of a foal stranded on a bank between a river, leat and water take off point.  The Fire Brigade rescued the foal, no dam was to be seen and 'Beanie' was brought into our yard

BEANNIE

Robin and Beanie needed 24 hour feeding and lots of TLC.
