APRIL
BEFORE AFTER

SWEP attended, at the request of the Police, a Chestnut Shetland Cross Mare (approximately 10 hh) found wandering at the edge of Plymouth City in an area called Plympton. The mare was very frightened and was running wild. She would not let anyone catch her as she ran in and out of private gardens, crossed busy roads, went through industrial estates and twice crossed the main railway line from Plymouth to Exeter.
She finally settled in a nearby field with privately owned horses. Unfortunately, the dominant mare chased her around the field and attacked her. The owners of the horses removed them from the field but left a colt with the mare for company, but by now it was getting dark. The following day with a lot of helpers and using the colt as a lead we herded the mare into a field shelter and penned her in with straw bales to allow a Vet to attend her.
The mare was sedated and transported safely to the SWEP yard. Despite all our attempts to find her owner we have been unsuccessful to date. SWEP has named the mare 'APRIL'.
April HAS FOUND A NEW HOME WHEN SHE IS READY
SWEP attended a newborn foal on Dartmoor whose both back legs were weak at the fetlock. Unfortunately, the foal was unable to stand or walk correctly; following the herd would have caused this foal lots of problems. SWEP notified the owner and the foal and mare were removed from the moor to the owners farm. With care and restricted movement this foal should come correct.
